Yonge-Dundas Square
Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, Toronto
Often compared to New York City’s Times Square, Yonge-Dundas Square is a 1-acre, bustling public square and event space that attracts more than 145,000 daily visitors from across the city and around the world. It plays a significant role in Toronto’s urban landscape, offering a dynamic platform for cultural expression, entertainment, and community engagement. It has become a symbol of the city’s energy and diversity.
One of the most recognizable features of Yonge-Dundas Square are the large and engaging digital displays conceived and designed by KDA. Contributing to the square’s vibrant and iconic appearance, the digital signage network provides a much-needed communication system to effectively showcase events, concerts, artistic content, public announcements and vital city information.
Importantly, the network provides on-going third-party revenue that helps support the success and programming of The Square.

Embracing the Square
KDA brings the concept of “Embracing The Square” to life by strategically arranging 10 digital displays in an immersive manner. Given the substantial concert and event attendance, these displays have been intentionally situated to provide unique viewing angles, ensuring that audiences can effectively engage with content from all four corners of The Square.

Hub of Activity
Since its completion in 2002, Yonge-Dundas Square has been a hub of activity, playing host to numerous public events, performances, and art displays. The Square is central to the bustling Downtown Yonge entertainment and shopping district and has become a must-visit tourist attraction in Toronto. KDA’s engaging and dynamic digital media program complements the excitement of The Square and adds vibrancy and vitality to the visitor experience.

‘D’ for Dynamic Diversity
KDA engaged in extensive consultations with stakeholders to gain insights into The Square’s brand personality within the context of an overarching design narrative. It was in response to these discussions that KDA proposed the introduction of a new, simplified wordmark logo as part of the digital media network launch.
An accompanying icon was also created to complement the newly designed wordmark logo. This icon features a simple, yet dynamic ‘D’, symbolizing an inclusive, enjoyable, and vibrant ‘Dundas’. The ‘D’ icon moves away from any literal depiction of the physical space, instead focuses on capturing the daily experiences and innovations at The Square. A variety of diverse linear shapes represents the convergence of a diverse audience within a welcoming environment.
