Sheraton Hotel
Brookfield Hotel Properties, Toronto
Located just steps from Nathan Phillips Square and City Hall in the heart of the entertainment and business districts lies Sheraton Hotel, the largest, most prominent hotel in Toronto. Having undergone a $120 million transformation, the most ambitious renovation in its 50-year history, the modernized look exemplifies Sheraton’s global transformation journey as a community hub for both guests and locals alike.
Departing from the building’s original brutalist design style, the new architectural façade integrates more readily within the modern landscape.
KDA took design inspiration from this new brand direction and created a signage and wayfinding program that features sleek and modern finishes that reinforce the high level of architectural design upgrades and greatly improve the overall visitor and guest experience.
Additionally, KDA consulted and coordinated with Heritage Preservation Services to ensure that the new signage program was a sensitive and thoughtful response to the heritage of the hotel’s brutalist architecture, yet meaningful to its new, modern transformation.
Sheraton’s New Brand
Repositioning the hotel for a new age in hospitality, KDA ensured Sheraton’s new brand logo has strong impact upon arrival – the brand is presented atop each entrance canopy, the revitalized porte-cochère, as well as the hotel’s tower.
Integrating a Visual Language
As part of the visual language of the wayfinding signs, KDA thoughtfully integrated an environmental graphic pattern that celebrates the design characteristic of the strong, vertical fluting and lattice motifs present in both the original and new architecture and updated interiors. Other wayfinding signs showcase individually pinned letters located at key locations to provide efficient navigation throughout the hotel.
Wayfinding to 63 Event Rooms
KDA designed touch-interactive digital directories to provide guests and visitors with a schedule of activities, conferences and meetings that take place daily at each of the 63 event rooms.
