Fleming College is a mid-sized institution located within a stunning natural setting. The College offers programs in trades, technology, health, and business, and its campus blends existing facilities with new developments, including a recently constructed 87,000 sq. ft. trades building.
KDA’s exterior and interior signage and wayfinding program was informed by stakeholder engagement sessions with faculty, staff, and students, which uncovered a variety of navigational and accessibility challenges across the campus.
In response, KDA developed a strategic alphanumeric system, colour-coded building identification, and a cohesive signage strategy to simplify movement, clarify building hierarchies, and enhance accessibility across multiple levels and split-floor buildings.
KDA’s solutions not only improve wayfinding and accessibility but also reinforce Fleming College’s brand identity, ensuring a clear, cohesive, and welcoming experience for students, staff, and visitors. A Donor Recognition Program was also developed and integrated throughout the campus environs.
Complex Made Simple
The main building, with multiple full and half-floor levels, was rationalized into four easy-to-navigate levels, simplifying complex floor plates. Accessibility and legibility improvements are complemented by vibrant environmental graphics, which enhance the campus identity and provide highly distinctive and memorable wayfinding cues.

Campus Maps
As part of the overall wayfinding strategy, KDA developed a custom cartography system to ensure clear orientation across the campus. Complementing this, exterior maps provide concise guidance from entrances and exits to key buildings and spaces, enabling straightforward, accessible navigation throughout the campus.
After just a few site visits, KDA used their considerable expertise and strategic acumen to design a holistic wayfinding and signage master plan that was universally accepted by our Executive Team and has purposefully laid the groundwork for our current and future signage needs.
Enriching Environments
To further enhance the campus environment, KDA designed a thematic parking lot naming and graphic system inspired by local indigenous trees. This approach introduces vibrant, site-specific graphics that create a visually engaging campus identity, enriching the overall user experience while celebrating the College’s natural setting.
Donor Recognition
KDA developed a Donor Recognition Program to honour the contributions of businesses and individuals who support Fleming College, its programs, and its students, celebrating their commitment to the growth and success of the campus community.
