160 Front
Digital Roof Beacon
Cadillac Fairview, Toronto
KDA designed the iconic LED digital roof beacon for anchor TD Bank at 160 Front, creating a dynamic and fully customizable digital experience that elevates the building’s presence in Toronto. The LED beacon offers programmable colours, effects, and messaging, allowing it to transform in real-time and capture a wide range of moments — from sporting events like the Blue Jays’ season opener to TD’s community initiatives — reinforcing the brand’s connection to the city.
The design required careful consideration of content scheduling and messaging, balancing creativity with technical precision. KDA worked closely with engineering, structural, and environmental teams to ensure the signage was safely integrated into the building’s structure. The cantilevered design also features an internally accessible catwalk system accessed from inside the building for easy maintenance and LED panel replacement, prioritizing both functionality and safety.
Opting for programmable LED lighting over traditional options enhances sustainability by reducing environmental impact. It offers a more energy-efficient and durable solution, allowing for easy brand and image updates without the need to replace the sign, further lowering the carbon footprint.
The overall design harmonizes with Toronto’s skyline, thanks to a strategic sightline analysis that ensures the signage is both visible and integrated into the urban landscape. More than just a series of digital displays, it tells a story that deepens TD’s connection with the community, solidifying the brand as an integral part of Toronto’s identity.
Canvas
in the Sky
Harmonized Design
KDA strategically designed the LED system at 160 Front to integrate seamlessly with TD’s sister tower at 161 Bay, also designed by KDA. This synchronization allows the two buildings to communicate through shared dynamic content, while still retaining the ability to display unique messaging for each location
